March 21, 2022

SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) vehicles have been leading the European market for years; it is a reality that directly affects sedans and minivans, eclipsing this segment to such an extent that on some occasions they have been on the verge of disappearing.

Faced with an imminent change towards electrification, Mercedes-Benz leads the fleet of 100% electric vehicles with the EQ range and adopts a new segment to the market, the SUL.

What is a SUL

The acronym SUL refers to Sport Utility Limousin., this concept was born with the idea of satisfying a customer who wants the best of an SUV vehicle along with the benefits and comfort that a sedan conveys.

These vehicles, very similar to SUVs, are distinguished from the rest of the vehicles by their height, notably higher than in a sedan or a crossover like the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class All-Terrain.

In addition, the wheel arches have been reinforced with plastic to give them a more 4×4 appearance and most importantly, SUL are vehicles that denote luxury, distinction and comfort.

With these premises we are going to get to know the first SUL that the brand has presented so far.

The First Mercedes-Benz SUL

The first SUL that Mercedes presented in 2018 was the Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury. Presented as a concept at the Beijing show, this vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz GLC had undergone significant changes in both its exterior and interior aesthetics and under the hood it hid 4 engines that delivered a whopping 750 HP.

The Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury (SUL) combines the comfort and lines of a sedan and an SUV. Although it is still a concept vehicle, at its presentation it already had four synchronous motors and fully variable traction depending on user demand.

What is the next step for Mercedes-Benz SULs?

Mercedes-Benz is already preparing the new SULs, which will most likely focus on compact bases like that of the brand's flagship model, the A-Class.
Although at the moment nothing is clear, the reality is that this new SUL vehicle concept arouses interest in the user since it covers the vast majority of the demands of this new customer profile.
