Euro NCAP awards Mercedes-Benz

December 20, 2018

The European safety body Euro NCAP has presented the Mercedes-Benz A-Class as the safest vehicle in its segment. The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class has passed the Euro NCAP crash tests achieving outstanding results. Consequently, it has received the award for the best vehicle among those that obtained five stars.

Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is a body in which European transport ministries, motoring clubs and insurance associations take part. They carry out crash tests and advise on vehicle safety based on the available safety systems.

S-Class heritage

The new A-Class has the most advanced driving assistance systems from the highest range of Mercedes-Benz, the S-Class. Its cooperative driver assistance provides the highest level of active safety in the segment, making it the first time the Class A has semi-autonomous driving in certain circumstances. In addition, it is the first vehicle to be developed in the new Technology Center for Safety (TFS) of the Daimler Group. The design of the vehicle structures incorporates advances from real accident research. The main safety concept of the body is the high rigidity of its passenger compartment. Its great resistance to frontal, side or rear collisions and rollover is essentially due to the intensive use of high-strength steels formed under high pressure.

This model is equipped as standard with the improved Active Brake Assist system. This system, depending on the situation, can help mitigate or completely avoid rear-end collisions with slower, stopped or parked vehicles, and even with crossing pedestrians or cyclists.
