The pioneer of Premium SUVs will begin marketing in February
Orders are now accepted for the new Mercedes-Benz GLE, with first deliveries scheduled for the month of February. Initially, two engines are available, the GLE 300 d 4MATIC and the GLE 400 4MATIC. The latter, thanks to its 48 volt microhybridization system, receives the environmental distinction from the DGT “ECO”. Later the range of powertrains will be expanded and there will be a plug-in hybrid variant. Its main new features include the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active running gear, the active traffic jam assistant and a more spacious and comfortable cabin that, for the first time, can optionally incorporate a third row of seats.
The new GLE has a wider wheelbase (80 mm larger) than its predecessor, which translates into greater interior space. The optional fully electrically adjustable seats in the second row are particularly comfortable and a world first in the segment. As an option, a third row of seats.
Latest generation MBUX system
The system MBUX now has assistant for the interior. Compared to the A-Class, where this revolutionary system debuted, the new version has two 12,3-inch/31,2 cm screens that create a superb widescreen driving position. The MBUX interior assistant allows intuitive control of various functions. To do this, the system recognizes the movements of the users. A camera located in the roof control unit records the movement of the hands and arms of the driver and front passenger.
Two mechanics available at launch
For the launch in the Spanish market, two versions are available, one diesel and the other gasoline. In diesel mechanics, the GLE 300 d 4MATIC , (fuel consumption in the combined cycle: 6,4 – 6,1 l/100 km; CO2 emissions in the combined cycle: 169 – 161 g/km)1, equipped with a four-cylinder engine capable of generating 180 kW (245 HP) of power and provide very low fuel consumption figures. In gasoline, it is offered GLE 450 4MATIC which equips a six-cylinder in-line engine with extensive electrification measures based on 48-volt technology (fuel consumption in the combined cycle: 9,6 – 8,3 l/100 km; CO2 emissions in the combined cycle: 220 – 190 g/km)1. Its power data: 270 kW (367 HP) and 500 Nm of torque, to which another 250 Nm of torque and 16 kW/22 HP of power are briefly added via the EQ Boost function. The integrated starter alternator (ISG) takes over some functions of hybrid propulsion systems, e.g. EQ boost or recovery, and allows fuel consumption levels to be reached that, until now, were reserved for models with high-voltage hybrid technology. Other engines will follow later, including a diesel group and a plug-in hybrid.
