LG Barcelona and the Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team

December 14, 2020

Last October 25th LG Barcelona and the Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team They met to schedule an event in which Sustainability, design and cutting-edge technology came together to offer the best of each world.

The MB Sailing Team is the official Mercedes-Benz sailing team competing in the J70 one-design racing category. and is made up of a very high-level crew competing against other equal boats where the value and talent of the crew is rewarded.

Luis Martínez Doreste is the team's regular skipper, accompanied by sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and world champions, Ricardo Terrades Espinosa and Nete Armas, as well as Copa América sailors and Olympic medalist Domingo Manrique, gold in Barcelona'92. .

Also part of the team are Roberto Molina, Germán Panei, Aleix Gelabert, Toni Rivas, Pablo Rosano and Gustavo Martinez Doreste, among others.

The team began competing at the beginning of 2020 in the regattas organized in Barcelona and Vigo, finishing in first and third position. Unfortunately, the good pace they were having was cut short in March when the competitions were suspended due to COVID-19 until September.

LG Barcelona, official Mercedes-Benz dealer, wants to get involved in this project and give it a voice, convinced of the need and usefulness of promoting values such as sustainability, design and cutting-edge technology.

For this reason, the MB Sailing Team was invited to our facilities to see first-hand, the new range of hybrid and 100% electric vehicles Mercedes-Benz EQ-Power and Mercedes-Benz EQ.

Once there, the team members Mb Sailing Team They were briefly interviewed, they talked about awareness of keeping the environment “clean”, their reason for getting involved with Mercedes-Benz and they explained to us why they opted for each specific model in the range.

They all agreed on the ease of response and power delivery in terms of acceleration of both ranges. Acceleration that was especially notable in the Mercedes EQC, a 100% electric vehicle which lays the foundations for what the new Mercedes-Benz EQ models will be from now on.

They also saw in them the potential to drive a plug-in hybrid or 100% electric vehicle since they could making journeys within the city without emitting direct emissions and adding extra comfort that was similar to sailing. This is because the vehicles in both the EQ and EQ POWER ranges are very well soundproofed and when they use their electric motors, no type of noise is perceived inside the cabin, which emulates the sensations of sailing.

If we compare the efficiency of the EQ and EQ Power range motors with the J70 we will see a reasonable similarity since both work with clean energy, wind in the case of sailboats and electricity extracted from renewable energy plants in the case of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Furthermore, the avant-garde design is more than visible in both worlds, for the J70 since they require having the latest evolutions in terms of navigation to be able to take advantage of 100% of the energy, in the same way that Mercedes vehicles in the ranges do. EQ and EQ Power that are capable of recovering a large part of the energy generated by braking and deceleration to convert it back into electricity to be able to move efficiently.
